As we all know, the number of neutral eyeshadow palette are endless  and it’s difficult to keep up with companies launching a new one every week. For those of you who love neutrals, here are some great palettes that will provide good quality, a variety of colors and finishes, and endless eyeshadow combinations.

MAC Eyes on Mac Burgundy Times Nine $40
Pros: Very compact, great color range, various finishes, availability
Cons: Eyeshadow size, price

This tiny palette is the perfect palette for those who do their makeup on the go. It’s compact size is ideal for travel and just tossing it in your purse or makeup bag. The range of universally flattering colors in the palette allow you to do a simple look for daytime and the variety of mid tone and deeper colors give the option to add some depth for a more dramatic or smoky look. Also, many of the shades in this palette are a part of MAC’s permanent range, and not to mention some of my favorites (Embark, Haux, Sketch).

Although it has a really nice range of colors, the size of each shadow is much smaller than those of the individual shadows MAC sells and for the price, there are a wide range of other options with more product from other companies that are comparable.

You can find this palette at your local MAC counters and stores as well as maccosmetics.com.

Urban Decay Naked Palette $54
Pro: quality, cruelty-free brand, double-sided brush, wide range of colors
Cons: Limited range of finishes, price

No blog post on neutral palettes would be complete without mentioning the Naked palette. This palette is the pioneer of the neutral palette craze (which I love), with good reason as it offers a nice range of light, midtone, and deep colors. Urban Decay is also a cruelty-free brand, so you can feel great knowing no animals are harmed or tested on yet they still provide excellent products. This palette is perfect as it comes with a double-ended brush that fits perfectly in the palette and is excellent quality.

Although this palette has a great range of color, if you are not a fan of shimmer, glitter, or shiny shadows, this may be a palette you want to pass on. There are only two matte colors in this palette, which may limit your possibilities if you enjoy looks with more of a mix of finishes. The Naked palette is sold $54, which is a bit steep in price, but when you consider it comes with 12 great neutral colors and a double-ended brush, it is actually a great value.

The Naked palette can be found at urbandecay.com, Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s and Nordstrom.

Stila Mind Palette $49
Pros: quality, all matte, wide color range, packaging
Cons: price, limited finishes

The Stila Mind Palette in my opinion is the ultimate matte palette. It has a great range of neutral, warm and cool tones that can suit almost anyone. Mattes are also the best finish for more mature skin and flattering on all other skin tones, so if you want to add in a shimmer, throw your favorite one in your makeup bag and you are good to go! Also, the packaging feels very high quality and the gold exterior looks beautiful.

With this palette, there isn’t many cons, but if you like a mix of matte and shimmers this is not the ideal palette, but I still would highly recommend it and just add your favorite shimmery or metallic shadows. The price again is on the higher end, but for 12 high quality, full-sized shadows, it is a great value.

This collection of Stila palettes can be found at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, and stila.com

LORAC Pro Palette $42
Pros: Compact, range of colors, range of finishes, primer, quality
Cons: Texture, size of pans, accessibilty

lorac-pro-palette-eye-shadows-with-mini-primer-d-00010101000000~211843.jpg

The LORAC Pro palette is definitely one of my very “loved” palettes. The range of colors are just up my alley with a wide option of neutrals that create just about any look. In addition to the colors, unlike the Naked palette, there are a great range of mattes and shimmers that are pigmented, buttery, and blend like a dream. The icing on the cake is that the palette is incredibly thin and compact, which make it perfect for travel. It also comes with a eye primer which is very good as well.

With some of the shadows, specifically some of the matte ones, there is a more powdery texture to them, but it is nothing a little blending can’t fix. Although there are 16 great shadows in the palette, the size of the pans are small, which means your favorite colors will run out very quickly. Finally, this palette has very limited

availability being sold only at Ulta (which is not here in Hawaii just yet).  Overall, the pros of this palette greatly outweigh the cons in my opinion as it is great quality, selection, and value.

The Pro palette can be found at Ulta and loraccosmetics.com.

LORAC Unzipped Palette $42
Pros: quality, range of finishes, primer, compact
Cons: range of colors, accessibility

The LORAC Unzipped palette is one that for me I really love, but am not IN love with. The tones for me are perfect, with more of a warm, neutral feel with those gold, rose gold and brown tones. Like the Pro palette, this one also comes with an eyeshadow primer, which is perfect to put in a freelance or just personal makeup kit for travel.  The size of the shadows are huge and the colors are very complimentary so they all look amazing when layered and paired together. The 6 matte and 6 shimmer shadows ranging from light to dark work together beautifully to create anything from bright to smoky eye looks.

Like the Pro Palette, Unzipped is very limited and can only be found at Ulta. Also, if you want a wider range of colors, this palette may not be for you.  However, if you love warm tones it may be right up your alley.

The Pro palette can be found at Ulta and loraccosmetics.com.

Tarte Tartelette Palette $44
Pros: Quality, vegan and cruelty-free, compact, range of tones
Cons: Lack of finishes

Tartelette palette has only been out for a short time and has gained quite a following. The array of neutrals in this all-matte palette provide a great range of cooler and neutral tones and unlike most other neutral palettes, is not overloaded with warmer colors. It’s buttery texture is unlike many of the other matte shadows I have tried and blend so easily. They are extremely easy to work with and provide excellent pigmentation. The fact that Tarte is vegan and cruelty-free is just an additional bonus. The compact square size of the palette is perfect for travel and an ideal palette for placing in your on-the-go makeup bag.

When coming up with cons, I couldn’t think of many. If you are not a fan of all matte eye looks, you may want to add your favorite shadows to add brightness and sparkle. Although I don’t think many would consider this as a con, personally this palette is too cool toned for me as I lean towards the warmer tones.

The Tartelette palette can be found at Sephora, Macy’s, and tarte.com.

And there you have it. These palettes can provide an endless possibilities of looks that you can create. Value, quality, and convenience are so important in our everyday routines and these palettes do not disappoint.
